DigiFold Pro - High speed paper creasing or folding machine installed
Selsey Press Ltd, Chichester, West Sussex, recently invested in more finishing equipment with the purchase of a DigiFold machine from Morgana Systems, the UK's premier manufacturer of post-press equipment for the digital print market. The business recognised the creasing element as an essential step when folding heavier weight stocks. Standard buckle folders in use at Selsey Press are not suited to handling such materials. MD David Lamdin and his team had been using a Morgana AutoCreaser and then hand folding sheets – not the most time-efficient of solutions.
The DigiFold has been one of Morgana’s best selling products since it was first introduced in 2001. Over 1,000 units were sold before the 5000P model was introduced at Drupa 2008. Offering greatly increased speed this model sold nearly 500 units in its first two years, illustrating the need for a fast, accurate creaser/folder. Despite all the efforts of competitor companies, DigiFold is still the market leader and the product of choice for many digital printing professionals.
Commenting on the combined creasing and folding unit, David Lamdin, a Director of Selsey Press, said: “The combination of creasing and folding thicker stock in one unit is a tremendous time saver for us. The new machine will handle this work in one pass, and it will also be able to process the majority of our short-run folding work a lot more effectively than the larger machines.”
Commenting on the throughput of the new machine, David Lamdin said: “The Morgana takes just a minute to set-up on standard sized work, so is quickly into production. Our heavier duty folding equipment can take up to 15 minutes to set-up, which is fine for long runs, but DigiFold wins every time on the shorter run work that is more typical of digital print orders.”
Speaking about the installation at Selsey Press, Ray Hillhouse, Sales Manager for Morgana Systems, said: “DigiFold is the ideal product for companies needing to fold heavier weight stocks. Buckle fold devices are great for papers, but will always struggle to fold heavier weight stocks due to the design of the product. For work produced on card printers will benefit significantly from the unique creasing and knife folding solution offered by Morgana’s DigiFold.”
Selsey Press is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013, having been established back in 1963, by David’s grandfather, the late John Tyler. Having previously owned a print business in London, he moved out to the delights of West Sussex and started a new company with his son Derrick as managing director. He carried on working at the company on a daily basis until after his 95th birthday. Five of his family members are currently involved in running the business of 24 staff.
The company now operates from a purpose-built factory near Chichester, West Sussex. Starting from concept and design, through pre-press to printing via litho or digital, finishing and binding, to packing and mailing, Selsey Press provides the complete package.
