DigiCoater - Purely Digital

U.V. COATER OPENS NEW MARKETS FOR DIGITAL START-UP
In existence for just six weeks at the end of June, Purely Digital of Derby is looking to exploit new markets through its combination of an HP Indigo 5500 press and a package of Morgana digital finishing equipment that includes the new U.V. DigiCoater, which was launched at Drupa.

With a decade of experience in digital printing, Purely Digital’s managing director, Andrew Edmondson, is aiming to broaden the scope of short run digital printing by using a variety of specialist papers including textured, ingrained and metallic stocks.“We can do this with the HP 5500”, he says, “but only because of the DigiCoater’s ability to pre-treat or prime substrates that would other wise be incompatible with digital presses, as well as providing a matt or gloss U.V. coating.”

Environmental issues are also high on the agenda at Purely Digital, which is currently in the process of gaining FSC accreditation and uses a range of FSC approved substrates. The DigiCoater makes an important contribution in this regard for, as Andrew points out, U.V. finished products, as opposed to the majority of laminated work, are both biodegradable and recyclable.

The ability to offer a wider and more interesting range of stocks will, Andrew Edmondson believes, enable the company to provide the type of on-demand, customised printing solutions that clients are looking for.

As well as the DigiCoater, the rest of the finishing package from Morgana comprised a DigiFold creaser/folder, an EBA 551LT guillotine, a Foldnak 8 bookletmaker and trimmer and a Citoborma 111 drill.
