Morgana ‘Flying Knife’ Folding Technique Gets U.S. Patent

13-07-2006

Folding technology developed by Morgana Systems to prevent damage to digital output and incorporated in the company’s DigiFold creaser/folder has been granted a patent in the United States.

This means that the ‘Flying Knife’ technique, as it is called, is now patented worldwide. The Morgana method departs from conventional techniques in having no knives or buckle plates; instead it uses an electronically controlled ‘flying knife’ contoured around extra large diameter rollers and moving at the same speed as the material passing through the machine. It also employs a dynamic sheet deflector that comes in contact only with the leading edge of the sheet, thus allowing single or multiple folds to be performed without scratching or marking.

The DigiFold is one of several UK designed and made Morgana products targeted at the digital finishing market.
